ΠΕΡΙΓΡΑΦΗ

 ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems) is designed to rapidly improve road traffic safety, transport efficiency and to significantly contribute to energy and environmental conservation through traffic flow facilitation, such as elimination of traffic jam, by using communication technologies to link between people, infrastructure and vehicles. Due to its wide variety of related technologies and its ability to drastically change social and economic structures, ITS has the potential to create new industries and markets

ITS enables both government and private industry to improve safety, mitigate traffic congestion and reduce fuel consumption and emissions, as well as increase traveller mobility and convenience via the use of vehicle and infrastructure probe data to provide location-based telematics services. 

The European  Technical Committee CEN TC 279 is responsible for the Standardization in the field of telematics to be applied to road traffic and transport, including those elements that need technical harmonization for intermodal operation in the case of other means of transport.  It also supports standardization  in vehicle, container, swap body and goods wagon identification, in the communication between vehicles and road infrastructure, communication between vehicles and vehicle man machine interfacing as far as telematics is concerned.
