EIMF: Overview of Competition Law and its Practical Application in Cyprus

Competition law plays a critical role in ensuring fair markets and safeguarding both businesses and consumers. In Cyprus, as in the wider EU framework, regulatory scrutiny and enforcement actions have been increasing steadily in recent years. To help professionals navigate this complex and evolving area, the European Institute of Management and Finance (EIMF) is offering a specialised programme: Overview of Competition Law and its Practical Application in Cyprus. This interactive online seminar is designed to equip participants with practical knowledge and strategies that can be directly applied in their professional environments.

What Participants Will Learn

The programme will cover the foundations of competition law, focusing on key terms and legal concepts as they apply within the Cypriot and European context. Attendees will explore the main substantive rules, including anticompetitive agreements, cartels, and the prohibition of abuse of market power. Special attention will be given to the relevance of competition law in everyday commercial agreements, such as distribution or supply arrangements, as well as in mergers, joint ventures, and other transactions that may require notification to the Commission for the Protection of Competition. Participants will also gain insights into the enforcement landscape, distinguishing between public and private enforcement, and will examine the investigatory powers of regulators. Practical case studies will illustrate how competition law issues arise in real-world scenarios, providing participants with the ability to identify risks, define legal strategies, and evaluate compliance requirements.
