Dr. Apostolos Michopoulos has a Diploma (Dipl.-Ing.,/M.Eng. 2003) and a Ph.D. (2008) in Mechanical Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.Th.). In addition, he has successfully completed a M.Sc. on Project Management offered by the Open Hellenic University (2012). During 2009-2013, he was employed as Senior Researcher in the “Process Design Equipment Laboratory” of A.U.Th., performing research mainly on ground source heat pump systems, energy systems analysis, and energy efficiency of equipment and processes.

Starting 2011, he has been collaborating with the Department of Environmental Science and Technology, of the Cyprus University of Technology as a Visiting Lecturer and Scientist Expert. His responsibilities involved the participation in research projects and the preparation of lectures for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Since 2013 he is employed as Senior Researcher in CUT performing research on ground source heat pump systems. He is also working as an independent consultant on energy audits and energy savings plans for commercial and non-commercial companies and the public sector.

Dr. Michopoulos has been involved in the energy field for the past 16 years and has so far participated in 23 research projects funded by national and international organizations. The outcome of his research includes 17 peer-reviewed scientific papers in 8 international journals, as well as in 15 extensive conference abstracts at national and international conferences. He also held 25 articles in specialized national technical magazines and 8 book chapters, written in the Greek language. His extensive experience on the energy field has earned him awards and scholarships at the national and international level, including the “2010 Post-doctoral Studies Scholarship Program” of the Hellenic Institution of Scholarships and “2012 Research Grant for the Bilateral Exchange Program between Greece and Cyprus” of the Republic of Cyprus.
