London – born Evangelos Pourgourides, graduated from the University of Leicester in 1991, before being called to the Bar in 1992 (Lincoln’s Inn). 

Having qualified as a lawyer in the Republic of Cyprus in 1993, Evangelos boasts over 25 years’ experience, specializing in criminal law & extradition and European Arrest Warrant proceedings, making him an internationally recognised expert in this field. Mr. Pourgourides has a notable record of defending clients on all criminal, extradition and human rights matters. From drink driving to complex fraud to politically motivated murder, he provides specialist advice and representation in courts of all levels across Cyprus.

In addition, Mr. Pourgourides, regularly speaks in public about the issues facing Cyprus and the rule of law through his live vlog on Facebook. He regularly invites prominent figures from the political and legal environment to join him in live debates and discussions. He is well respected amongst his peers and regularly undertakes and supports charitable work across the island. 

Being an authority in his field, Mr. Pourgourides, has created and founded the Legal think tank 'Kratos Dikaiou' which is a widely respected non Governmental Organisation, which aims to achieve and influence the achievement of a fair, just and democratic society in Cyprus. Mr. Pourgourides regularly contributes, via articles, to the webpage of the NGO, sharing his breath of legal wisdom and knowledge with the legal sector and beyond.

The European Legal Training Center is delighted and honoured to have Mr. Pourgourides on board as a trainer in Criminal Law. He adds a wealth of experience and knowledge to our training courses. Mr. Pourgourides, will be teaching and training lawyers and trainee lawyers on how to handle a criminal case, from advising a client all the way up to how to appeal a court decision. Mr. Pourgourides is passionate about ensuring that lawyers who represent clients in criminal proceedings possess the necessary skills to ensure the protection of Human Rights, the Rule of Law and the principles of natural justice.
