This course provides IT professionals with the knowledge and skills required to administer and maintain SQL Server and Azure SQL Database infrastructures, including security, backup and recovery, automation, monitoring, and troubleshooting. It is the community courseware successor to the retired Microsoft Official Curriculum.

After completing this course, students will be able to:

• Explain SQL Server authentication and authorization concepts, including server/database roles, permissions, and schema-level security.
• Describe encryption and auditing options (e.g., TDE, column-level encryption, SQL Server Audit) and when to apply them.
• Differentiate recovery models and transaction log behavior and how they affect backup and restore decisions.
• Identify backup types, retention considerations, and restore approaches (including point-in-time recovery).
• Recognize SQL Server Agent security concepts (credentials, proxies, job ownership) and alert/notification components (operators, alerts).
• Explain monitoring and tracing concepts, including Extended Events and common performance bottlenecks.
• Outline data movement concepts and common import/export techniques and tools.
